The 36th Annual Human Rights Awards Breakfast honors community citizens and organizations for their contributions to human rights locally, nationally, and internationally.
The program begins with a keynote presentation by Dr. Melissa Shivers, the Vice President for Student Life at the University of Iowa. She is a first-generation college graduate and received her Bachelor of Science from Georgia Southern University, Master of Education from Clemson University, and her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Georgia.
In her role as Vice President for Student Life at Iowa, Melissa is committed to student success visa-vis the leadership of sixteen departments all committed to removing barriers, focusing on students' health, safety, and well-being through a diversity, equity,and inclusion lens.
This year's award winners include...
Jesse Case:
The Isabel Turner Award for work for fair and ethical treatment and/or volunteering time to an organization or business that works for these rights
Elizabeth Bernal:
The Rick Graf Award for long-term commitment to a specific cause or for the benefit of a specific group of persons
Angie Jordan:
The Linda Severson Award for contributions to human rights by an individual in a service organization
Inside Out Reentry:
The Bill Reagan Award for contributions to human rights by a business or organization
Matthew Farrey:
The Kenneth Cmiel Award for contributions to the field of human rights by a college student and/or graduate student
Kevin Sanders:
The International Award for acknowledging significant contributions to human rights in the global community
