Know Your Rights - Spousal and Partner Abuse Laws and Resources

The Iowa City Human Rights Office hosted this event, which was aimed at informing the public of their rights and available resources regarding spousal and partner abuse.

Scott Stevens, Domestic Violence Investigator for the Iowa City Police Department says there are between 500 and 600 calls for service each year related to domestic abuse. Last year, the Police Department received 580 calls for service; 139 victims reported injuries; 186 incidents occurred with children present.

Presenters include representatives from the Iowa City Police Department, Nisaa African Family Services, and the Domestic Violence and Intervention Program (DVIP).
