The next election is the Iowa City Community School District School Board election on September 9. Two candidates for the School Board came into our studio to talk about their ideas:

flood recovery meetings

On July 29, local, state and federal representatives paneled a Town Hall meeting to answer questions about flood mitigation options. We've indexed the video by question, and put it in our City Council Meeting archives.

On July 2, KCRG, The Gazette and City Channel 4 teamed up to bring a panel discussion with local, state and federal officials about the ongoing issues of flood recovery.

In the 2nd program of this monthly series on life in Iowa City, Iowa City Mayor Regenia Bailey and host Katie Roche speak with Mark Ginsberg of Summer of the Arts and Beth Bewley of the Englert Theatre about summer arts and culture. Katie also takes to the field to discuss Public Art with City of Iowa City employee Marcia Klingaman and visits with Ron Clark of Riverside Theatre about the yearly Shakespeare Festival. The Mayors Monthly Notable Non-profit is Arts Iowa City, where we will meet Cody Geiselman, the artist behind an interactive art installation called 'Boys and Girls, by number'.

In the first episode of At Home in Iowa City, Mayor Bailey and co-host Katie Roche take on the subject of biking in Iowa City. Guest Kris Ackerson of the Johnson County Council of Governments will talk about how Iowa City and surrounding areas are coordinating bike trails and other amenities to make our community bike friendly. Officer Hewlett will talk about bike safety and local biking advocate Greg Johnson will share tips on how to become a bike commuter. A profile of The Bike Library helps to explain this Mayor's Monthly Notable Non-Profit.

Dog Paddle
In this edition of Community Voice, join host Katie Roche as she visits the yearly Dog Paddle, an event in which City Pool is kept open for the last two days of the pool season for area dogs to go swimming. This event raises money for the Johnson County Dog Park. Katie interviews Tank the Dog, event organizer Beth Shields, and area dog owners about this great community event.

Superman
Meet Art "Superman" Pennington, an 84 year old Negro League baseball star living in Iowa reflecting about playing in a segregated baseball leagues in the 40's and 50's. He hit a home run off a very famous Cuban and tells the story in the interview. Later in the segment Community Producer Nathan Leach explores the role that African Americans played in baseball in Iowa. It's a jazzy little program and we really hope you enjoy.
