GROUNDS MAINTENANCE

Primary outdoor work. Performs daily ground litter removal in City Plaza and outer CBD areas. Performs checks for vandalism, graffiti and needed repairs. Collects and disposes of trash and recyclables in CBD receptacles. Performs maintenance of various site furnishings and tree grates in CBD. Performs preparations and cleanup for various events in CBD. Performs landscape maintenance including weeding, watering, mulching, pruning and fertilizing of various plant materials. May perform preparations for flower beds in CBD and various parks. May perform mowing and trimming of turf areas in CBD and City Park. Cleans and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment. Cleans and maintains CBD storage and shop areas, break room and office facilities. Operates trucks, power sweepers, scrubber, push mowers and cord trimmers. Uses and maintains various pieces of landscape equipment and hand tools. Performs other related duties as required. Duties are performed primarily in City Plaza and other CBD areas and various parks. May assist other CBD employees and Departmental staff.
Minimum education, experience and certification
Applicant must be well suited to outdoor work and have the ability to perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks under adverse weather conditions. Previous grounds maintenance experience preferred. Applicant must be self-motivated and dependable, and have the ability to work under minimal supervision. PARK SECURITY MAINTENANCE
Parks Division

Job Duration:

Enforces park rules and regulations. Secures and protects park facilities. Posts reservations for picnic shelters, ball diamonds, etc. Patrols park and recreation areas; maintains good public relations and Police cooperation. Maintains restroom facilities daily, and picks up trash on weekends and holidays. Will alternate schedules with other Park Security Maintenance employees as assigned by the Parks Superintendent. Performs other related duties as required.

Job Duration: April 25th – October 29th
Performs maintenance by trim mowing, watering play fields, and operating tractors and mowing equipment. Checks and repairs playground equipment and maintains areas around play equipment. On a daily basis sweeps and mops restroom floors, stocks paper containers, and cleans urinals, water closets and lavatories. Sweeps picnic shelters, cleans picnic tables and cleans out cooking grills. Performs daily trash pickup. Drives and operates truck with trash compactor. Assists regular maintenance crews with construction and maintenance projects. Enforces park rules and regulations. Secures and protects park facilities. Assists Forestry Division with tree trimming, planting and maintenance in City parks and public street rights-of-way and on other City property. Operates chain saws, power pole pruners, hand pruning tools, medium and large dump trucks, and specialized equipment during the maintenance of trees throughout the City. Performs other related duties as required.

Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a basic knowledge of plant materials and maintenance; general knowledge of the use of chain saws, power mowers and hand tools; ability to perform heavy manual labor which may require heavy lifting, continuous standing and walking under a variety of environmental conditions. Checks and repairs playground equipment. Maintains sand surface areas under play equipment. Trims and mulches trees and shrubs. Cleans picnic grills and shelters. Performs daily custodial services of restrooms and picnic shelter facilities in various park locations: includes sweeping and mopping restroom floors; stocking paper containers; cleaning urinals, water closets and lavatories; sweeping picnic shelters; cleaning picnic tables and cleaning out cooking grills. Performs daily trash pickup of all parks, recreation areas, assigned public properties and their facilities. Assists with routine maintenance of playground equipment. Drives and operates truck with trash compactor; occasionally operates tractors and mowing equipment. Assists regular maintenance crews with construction and maintenance projects. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum education, experience and certification

Loads and unloads materials and equipment. May assist in cement and asphalt patching, mudjacking and crack sealing. Cleans equipment, building and grounds. Operates light motorized equipment as necessary. Performs other related duties as required.

Mows grass, pulls or cuts weeds and performs other types of yard work. Washes windows, cleans and dusts buildings; paints buildings and equipment. Assists maintenance crew in repairing or adjusting pumps, motors, valves, and other types of equipment. Helps inspect and maintain lift stations. Assists the sewer maintenance crew in checking, cleaning, repairing and otherwise maintaining the storm and sanitary sewer systems. Will assist in construction-type activities, using shovels, picks, jackhammers and cement products. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum education, experience and certification
Requires six months as a general laborer. Requires manual dexterity and the ability to perform heavy manual labor, which may require heavy lifting, digging and continuous standing under a variety of environmental conditions. Requires ability to keep accurate measurements and records, and to participate in confined space entries under the Division's safety programs. Educational program development. Promotes environmental stewardship and sustainable urban living principles. Habitat construction, restoration and maintenance. Grading, planting and natural resource inventory. Invasive and nuisance species control. Trail construction and maintenance. Prairie and wetland maintenance through prescribed burning. Mows and cuts or pulls weeds and perform other types of yard work. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum education, experience and certification
Requires post high school training in or enrollment in environmental sciences program. Requires manual dexterity and ability to perform heavy manual labor, which may require heavy lifting, digging and continuous standing under a variety of environmental conditions. Requires ability to keep accurate measurements, records and species identification. Requires oral communication skills. Prefer experience with operating tractors, backhoe and dump trucks. Investigates routine weed and junk car complaints. Inspects site and researches names of property owners to validate information. Prepares and mails violation notices to property owners. Conducts follow-up inspections and takes appropriate measures if violation has not been corrected. Assists Inspectors with miscellaneous data entry and filing. Performs other related work as required.
Minimum education, experience and certification
